I’ve just flew in to Singapore on August 8, and managed to get a nice little relaxing day off in Singapore.

August 9 is the National Day of Singapore, and i was staying in the Royal Plaza on Scotts this round. The hotel provides Free Internet Access and a Free Mini-Bar so if you are looking for a great deal, this hotel is pretty good. It’s just located between Shaw Towers and the Duty Free shop. Everything is within walking distance.

My first stop this morning was Paragon, and i tried out the Din Tai Fung, which serves “Siu Long Pau”, steamed Shanghainese steamed dumplings. There are 2 versions, 1 is the regular type and the other is the crab roe with minced pork. I’l definitely recommend the latter as it’s more unique in its flavour. Price is about S$9 for 6 pieces (works out to about US$6). Other dishes include the La Mian (hand-made noodles). Although it can get rather warm at times, due to the kitchen being placed near to the customers’ seating area, most customers will willingly just queue up for their turn and enjoy watching the chefs and assistants cook in the clear glass kitchen. You’re be able to see several outlets in Singapore, including one in Wisma Atria, Orchard Road.

Afternoon was spent shopping for a while, and then headed back to my hotel to check my emails. This round for dinner, we tried out the Soup Kitchen located by the side of the hotel, as i’m a great lover of soup. One of the most popular dish there is the Sam Sui Chicken, steamed chicken. They have got various outlets too, including in the basement of Paragon shopping centre too.

Then i headed to the Duty Free Shop next door. There were also many items on sale as it was the Annual Great Singapore Sale. I was mesmerised with a Swarovski crystal necklace with lots of crystal charms. However, there was no sales person around. I waited, and finally 1 sales lady arrived but she was busy serving the other customers which were also around. She asked me to wait further, but after waiting for close to 30 minutes, she was still not back. Sometimes i do wonder, how sales person are taught to allocate their time in serving customers. So in the end, i saved S$300 (about US$200) as i finally left without buying anything.

I am one of those types of girls that gets satisfaction through shopping. In just 1 hour of shopping in Wisma Atria, i finally managed to get 5 bags of shopping merchandise and went to Borders bookstore. Looks like they were having a National Day promotion. With just a cut-out coupon from the newspaper, you will be able to get 30% discount on a book. This is a great promotional tool, and definitely the newspaper with coupon were sold out! Have you done any theme vouchers / coupons promotions?

However, do remember to extend the expiry date of your promotions to at least 3 more days even after the “theme” day, in order to drive more traffic to your website and your retail stores.
