Free online games, game cheat, online rpg games? How would you like to play online games for free, 12 hours a day, and on top of that, be PAID to do so? In several cities in China, there has been active recruitment for teens interested in being hired as Gamers, for RMB800 to RMB1,000 a month (US$110 to US$140). Sounds like a dream come true for online gamers? The companies would even include 3 meals per day for these gamers, and no working experience required.
So, where’s the catch? Most of these gamers candidates are high school students who even quit their school to take on this job full time. While the companies hire you as a gamer to play online games, when you get games cheat, upgrade to the next game level, or collected your range of treasures / weapons, then these items would be traded online to other gamers in exchange for cash. According to a news report, one Korean gamer even paid up to RMB100,000 (US$12,500) to buy a set of online games weapons.
It’s a pity to see the harsh conditions that these teens are put through, with dim lights, stuck 12 hours a day to their seats while playing games. It’s not exactly a nice “cyber cafe” nor office working environment. Therefore, initially most teenagers would be excited, but after a couple of years, when they leave this job, they have to re-attend school to complete their high school education.
Yes, it’s good that you can be paid for your hobby, but probably, you might consider to think further of what lies ahead if you choose this job too early in life. The real benefits are of course for the employers that hire innocent, skillful gamers for low costs, and then convert their efforts for bigger profits.
