Happy Mid-Autumn Festival
Friday’s Mid-Autumn festival, or sometimes also known as Mooncake Festival. Young kids celebrate the event with lanterns, and candles.
We had an early celebration last weekend, with my brother putting up a nice barbecue at home. It’s been ages since i’ve had a barbecue.
Even hotels have different mooncake flavours, and some popular brands in Malaysia include those from restaurants like Tai Thong group, and also hotels like Mandarin Oriental.
For Hong Kong, the popular ones inlcude brands like Wing Wah, Kee Wah and even mooncakes with gold leaf icing by Super Star Restaurant group. Many retailers have been creative with the mooncake flavours in order to differentiate themselves from their other competitors. For instance, there are even tiramisu flavors, green tea flavors, and more.
To create their branding, retailers even hire popular stars like Aaron Kwok and Joey Yung to promote their own brand of mooncakes.
What are the flavours that you like? I normally enjoy the unique ice-cream mooncake, rather than have lotus seed or red bean paste inside the mooncake. These includes those cute Haagen-Dazs ice-cream moon cakes.
