Online gamers in China, what’s popular?
Have you wondered what China online gamers are attracted to? They spend an average of 11 hours weekly playing online games.
Over 63.6% are playing cyber games from home and their university dormitories. While 38.8% are accessing online games from an internet café and 30% played cyber games while in their working place.
There are many trendy internet cafes in China, and I’ve been to one amazing internet café inside a shopping mall along Huai Hai road in Shanghai. It looked grand, and over 100 pcs in just 1 location. It was like a world of its own.
However, they do not spend much on cyber games, with an average spending of RMB 40 (about US$6). The favourite online games for multiple types are:-
a) RPG – such as Legend and Miracle
b) PUZ – such as Paopao Candy and Candy Tank
c) SLG – such as Chess and poker
d) RTS – such as Age of Empires and Star Craft
e) SIM – such as merchantman
RPG and PUZ types of online games were most popular with each one being preferred by over 46.7% of the online gamers interviewed.
The main points that gamers consider when choosing their online game include access speed, quality of scene including sound effects, difficulty in operating the game and whether there are any free test plays like free trials.
Now I feel old, and slow because I’m just satisfied with simple mobile phone games, and even Java games on my Motorola phone will freak me out!
