What computers do you need to start an Internet Business?
What are the basic computer hardware requirements for running an internet business?
For me, i have several laptops in place, that each day i’ll just opt for 1 laptop to bring along. Sony Vaio is my favourite one as it’s light and have long battery life. Dell is also compact and is normally placed back in my HK office, while the new Fujitsu is placed back in my HK apartment.
Back home in Malaysia office, i still have 1 more Apple iBook that i can use.
First, it’s better to opt for a laptop that will allow you to do work from anywhere, anytime.
- make sure that the wireless adapter is working fine, so that you can connect to the Internet from other locations
2. What softwares to install in?
a. FTP software to be installed into your computer if you are handling your own web hosting space, so that you can upload your new webpages if you are doing this yourself
b. Website creation software eg web design and web programming tools like Dreamweaver and Photoshop
- if you’ re just like me (non-technical), then you can just learn how to use the simple image editing functions using Microsoft Image Paint for free
c. Audio and Video software
- in order to record audio or video presentations fast, you can download audio softwares like at http://www.eonenet.com/e_mall/webaudio.htm and hook on the microphone PC headset like at http://www.eonenet.com/e_mall/headset_microphone.htm
3. Consider the size (weight) and laptop hardware specifications
- if you are a frequent traveller, then you should have a lightweight machine
- battery life span will ensure that you can have hours of productive work on your laptop, even when you have not got the battery pack with you
Here i am working on the Level 60th club lounge in my Hong Kong home. Free wireless access, comfortable European sofas, and me relaxing to music on my MP4 player, while writing blog postings. Working from home is quite fun!
Always remember to backup your computer data frequently, as you might never know when the computer fails you….
