How to travel from Hong Kong to Shenzhen?

To travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China, you will have a choice of 2 major transportation mode:-

a) Take the train from Hong Kong direct to Shenzhen city

- the one-way fare is HK$33 from Hung Hom train station to Shenzhen for the economy class and HK$66 for the first class (cushioned seats, and recommended if you are travelling during peak hours). You can just pay using the Octopus MRT card, which is used on all HK subways stations, HK airport express rail, buses, and can even be used as payment in supermarkets

- the last train from Shenzhen to HK is about 12midnight, and you basically go through the 2 countries’ immigration checkpoints within walking distance

- you will reach the Shenzhen Luoho Station

b) Use the 24-hour coach / bus and this normally goes direct to WuKong bus terminal in Shenzhen. This will not be recommended for first-timers to Shenzhen city.

What can you do in Shenzhen? There’s plenty of entertainment, ranging from spa treatments (one of my favourites), dining, and shopping. You should pay in RenMinBi / yuan (chinese currency) or Hong Kong dollars.

I’ve done day trips to Shenzhen, and have only spent 1 weekend there so far, and checked myself into the New Times Hotel, which is just about 10 minutes drive from the LuoHu train station. It’s a brand new hotel opened in October 2005. The room rates are just about RMB538.

When i checked in, the receptionist told me, that the Beer and Soft Drink in the fridge are complimentary. Wow! I was thinking, oh, their giving out free mini bar consumption, which is one of the main selling point for some hotels, like the Royal Plaza on Scotts, in Singapore’s Orchard Road area (Scotts road).

Next to the hotel, there is a huge spa for men and women, called the Pacific Health Spa. The last time i went there, i spent RMB850 within 4 hours.  Just be conscious of your budget allocated, so that you can say “no” to the next masseur that offers you a back massage…..and then you won’t burn a hole into your pocket when you settle your bill!

If you want to try the coach back to Hong Kong, you can use the bus services directly from this hotel lobby, to be back to Hong Kong.
