What is SEO and how to get top rankings in search engines? Part 1

I guess for some of you, the first question is “what is SEO“? When I asked this question in our seminars across Asia, less than 10% knew the answer. “SEO” stands for search engine optimization, or search engine optimisation. This is how to optimize your website to get higher rankings in search engines in the natural, or organic search results, without paying for advertising charges.
The most common question put to us, when I showed them our numerous top rankings in search engines, is how did we do that?
To cut a long story short, you have to do onsite and offline SEO.
Onsite SEO is what you do to your website to make it search engine friendly. This includes
1. Your website structure.
2. The meta tags of your site
3. The contents of your site
4. The inter-linkage of the internal pages of your site
5. The keywords links in your site ..and More
I will talk about more about this and what is offsite SEO in another posting.

There are thousands & thousands of internet marketeers as well as internet marketing coaches who are well versed in crafting and positioning their websites to top 10. If everybody knows how to do it, then how can everybody get the top 10? You might say that there are also thousands and thousands of different keywords but what about the keywords of “internet marketing coaching or seminars”? You are going to say “marketing, marketing, marketing” aren’t you?
What if my webite is number 15,394,442 or even number 216, how will anyone find me?
Q3 - if I turn up at your office on a Saturday morning for working on my website, will I be welcomed? Assuming no coaching classes. If you or Fione is not in, will anyone else be able to help me on whatever you have covered on your 2-day course?

Hi there,
I would so appreciate if you could guide me in ensuring my site in found in at least the top10 of every major search engine available.
Seeing my site is an ecommerce site & without generating enough traffic, it would be as good as not having a site at all.
I had missed the last seminar but would love to seek ways on how eonenet could assist me further.

This is a frequently asked question. The first part of your answer is right. There are many different keywords for different industries, and even different keywords for same industries.
e.g for jewelry, the general keyword is “jewelry”. You should not choose this as your keyword because it’s too general, and there are too many search results (and competitors) and you cannot expect to get top ranking for this word within a short period of time and spending years of effort. What you should choose is specific type of jewelry that you are doing, e.g. silver jewelry, or even more specific keywords, eg. silver jewelry chain, silver jewelry necklace, silver jewelry ring etc
You may ask what if the same competitors are choosing the same keywords in the same specific industry. Then who gets top rankings depends on who is better in getting this job done, by applying the various SEO strategies. It’s similar to getting the Gold medal in the Olympics. There are so many great coaches for the same sport. And how come there is only one Gold medal in every game.
So this depends on how good is the coach, how good is the participant in learning, practising, and executing the required skills to get the Gold medal.
