Who is the King of search engines?
Posted by Harrace
According to the Nielson/NetRatings Report released on 19 December, 2007, the #1 U.S. search engine has captured a market share of 49.5% in November, 2007, with 3.1 billion search queries done. Can you guess which search engine is this?
I think most of you could guess correctly. Yes, it’s none other than Google, the search engine king. I have also contributed to this as I’ve made hundreds or even thousand of searches in Google each month!
The next place is Yahoo, with a market share of 24.3%, and MSN came 3rd, with a share of only 8.2%.
For more details of the report, go to http://www.nielsen-netratings.com/pr/pr_061219.pdf
So if your site is not in Google (I mean top 10 rankings in Google search results), then you are losing up to 99% of your potential customers to your competitors, who appeared in page 1 of the search results.
Is it worthwhile to invest the money and time to learn this trade secrets, of getting top rankings in Google?

Thanks for the update on the figures!
I think it is important to be on Google, at the same time, I heard that in the region (Asia, or Singapore), Yahoo seems to be the more popular engine? Correct me if I am wrong?

Hi Kian Ann,
Yes, you’re correct.
In selected markets such as Hong Kong, Yahoo is still leading Google. One of the main reason is that lots of people are using Yahoo.com.hk emails and also the Yahoo blog (more popular compared to wordpress or blogger)
