Asia Internet Marketing Company Lost $10,000 from Internet Disaster
By Harrace (Hong Kong)
Owing to the damage of the internet power cables under the sea as a result of the Taiwan earthquake, most of the websites in Asia could not be assessed, including Yahoo, Cathay Pacific, and the leading Asia Internet marketing company, eOneNet.com.
For the past 2 days, eOneNet.com could not be accessed in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shenzhen, and Malaysia. So we could not check our emails either. I estimate that eOneNet may have lost up to $10,000 online sales as a result.
I think our loss is small compared to other websites, like the Cathay Pacific Airways, and a lot of banking and online trading websites whose loss can run into tens of millions of dollars.
Today, we manage to assess our sites finally, but the Internet line is still very very slow. However, I can still manage to post in the blog here, fortunately, though it is taking me triple the time to load a page.
The Acting Financial Secretary of HKSAR told the media that the ISPs should inform the public earlier when they knew of the Internet failure so that the users can be better prepared. But one of the responsible person tried to shed off their delay in informing the public earlier by saying that they wanted to get the exact stats for the extent of the effect of the damage before they could reveal to the public.
This is again an unreasonable excuse. Why couldn’t they inform the public of the problem first as soon as they discovered this, and the extent of the damage and effects could be revealed later when they had the stats?
If you have encountered any experience in the last couple of days due to this Internet outrage, you’re welcome to share it here.

Hi Jenny,
Yes, even our internet marketing offices in Malaysia, Singapore are having slow connections in the office. We had to do uploading from Hong Kong office itself for webpage changes.
Let’s look at the brighter side of things, and probably it’s a reminder of us to celebrate the upcoming holidays with real people!

[…] A Shanghai writer called our Hong Kong office this afternoon enquiring about our company’s loss during the Internet break-down in the last 2 weeks. I wonder why he would call us regarding this. Then I remember having posted a blog entitled “Asia Internet Marketing Company Lost $10,000 from Internet Disaster” 2 weeks ago. […]
