By Harrace (Shenzhen)

I was in Shenzhen, China while writing this post, which took about 45 minutes by train from Tsimshatsui in Kowloon. I was reading the Nanfang Daily newspaper and note some interesting Internet stats. China Internet population has surpassed 123 million, of which 29.5% go online in Internet bar. In China, Internet cafes are known as “網吧” (Internet bars).

There are now about 120,000 Internet bars in China, with about 40 million visitors daily. Wow, this is quite an impressive figure! I don’t have the stats for other countries. But it looks China is definitely the world’s top country in having internet bars or internet cafes.

I think this stats can tell a few things. First, China Internet population, which is now second in the world, will be increasing exponentially in the coming years, and will probably surpass USA within the next 5 years.

Secondly, China represents a huge eCommerce market with more Internet companies expanding to China, after eBay, Google, and including eOneNet. I think we have made the right decision to set up a company in Hong Kong, which serves as a window of opportunities for us to tap into the lucrative China market.

It looks like eOneNet is not just ranked No.1 Asia Internet marketing company by Google, we are establishing our position as really the leading Asia Internet marketing company, with our strong physical presence in China, Malaysia and Singapore, not just some marketing tag line or shameless self-promotion.

I remembered visiting some of these Internet bars (or how we normally call it in Malaysia & Singapore), the Internet Cafes in Shanghai, and there are some pretty nice ones done up.

In Shanghai, some of these internet cafes are setup in commercial buildings / shopping malls and they are nicely laid out, so it looks like a good place to chill and surf the internet or play online games. They are huge too, like the one i visited in Huai Hai Lu, Shanghai, and even comes with different zones for surfing, 1 zone for selected genre on online gaming, 1 zone for online chatting. It seemed very organised.

Having internet access in bar is actually quite an inovative and interesting idea. This allow visitor to come and surf their net while having some drink, providing a conducive environment for them to do their research, surf net, play games or even online shopping. No wonder china internet population will increase such exponentially.

  5. ben Says:

internet is no doubt the most convenient tool ever invented. live cannot carry on without internet so as people cannot do without it even when having a meal or a drink outside. the idea of an internet cafe is indeed clever which can in turn bring in more customers.
