During the MacWorld show in San Francisco on 9th January 2007, when the iPhone was launched, several reports recorded that Steve Jobs actually made a call on the iPhone to the chief developer to congratulate him on a job well done. Also, latest news from the States seem to indicate that Apple may be launching the iPhone before June 2007. I believe the Chinese report is not accurate.
