Malaysia Internet Marketing - More Malaysians shopping online
Malaysia Internet marketing is making waves. In a recent research report by IDC Malaysia, Malaysia’s e-commerce spending grew 70% last year. Malaysia with a population of 26.6 million people, there were 6 million online shoppers in 2006 compared to 4.7 million unique buyers the year before, in 2005.
Are you one of them? I definitely am one of the avid Internet shoppers, regularly booking my flights and hotel reservations online. Checking through my credit card bills, i perform a minimum of 10 internet purchases each month.
2006 e-commerce spending by consumers was RM9.8 billion (about US$2.8 billion) which was a 43% growth from Malaysia’s 2005 consumer e-commerce spending of RM6.6 billion (about US$1.88 billion).
Even corporations were spending more money online. Malaysian businesses e-commerce spending was marked at RM47.6billion (US$13.6 billion), which was a jump of 77% from 2005’s B2B (business to business) transactions.
So, do you think Online Shopping will still be growing upwards in the coming years? Definitely, and if you also want to participate in this exponential growth, ask yourself, you would rather be the Shopper (the person who pays to buy things online) or the Seller (the person who earns money online, anytime, anywhere)?
For me, i prefer to be both, but of course, the Online Selling identity will be the dominant role that i choose to play. You too can also sell online. Check out eOneNet’s upcoming internet marketing seminars in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong to get you started on your Internet Business fast!

I have to agree on this… As we Malaysians become more tech-savvy and have greater awareness on the conveniences of online shopping, this number will only grow larger during the coming years…
Personally, i did my online shopping several times last year and in fact, my largest transaction was for US$300+ for a rare LOTR collectible!

Hi Hann Ti,
Great to see you participating in the blog. You must be a great fan of Lord of the Rings.
Once you’ve done online shopping, it’s hard to just restrict yourself to not try the 2nd time.
This is great news for entrepreneurs wishing to sell online, and i’m sure that you’ll be starting your internet business very soon.
Regards,
Fione

I prefer to be both, shopping online at home and at the same time selling items online to make some money. Isn’t it convenience that you do not have to squeeze with the other people at shopping mall and just sit comfortably at your house to purchase stuff online.

Hi Nori,
I definitely believe that this is a trend that is going upwards for many more years to come. As more Malaysians get connected online & have access to the wide variety of good available for sale on the Internet, we are no longer restricted to buying limited number of brands.
EBooks are popular but in many incidents, the free download seems to be the norm for many shoppers in Asia. Therefore, to sell ebooks, you should find a specific topic where its info is not specifically available so easily. To find cheap ebooks, check out auction sites too like in ebay.com and you’ll be amazed at how cheap some ebooks packages can get.
Rgds, Fione
