Google freeing up email account restrictions

Google is in the process of freeing up their email restrictions to accept all comers, nearly 3 years after they shook up the internet world by offering users an unprecedented amount of free storage and displaying ads based on contents of the correspondences.

As of last week, Google removed the invitation-only restrictions on its Gmail service in

Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Brazil. Google had already opened up the service last year in several other parts of the world, including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Egypt.

However, invitations to open a Gmail account are still required in North America, Asia and most parts of South America. But according to Google spokeswoman Courtney Hohne, those restrictions will be lifted “very soon”.

This is really great news! I still remember 3 years ago when I was first introduced to Gmail. I thought it was very troublesome to get a friend who’s an existing Gmail account holder to invite me before I can use the email services. But with this opening, I’m sure it will increase its usage and database even more. Afterall, Google has integrated many of its services like Adwords, Adsense and Blogspot to tie in with a single account, making their online services a One-stop shop. The reason Gmail is popular is its 2.6Gb of free storage for each subscriber.

this will be such an impact on the internet world. i’m rather sure that the gmail service will be the most widely used email in the future. because of the huge space allocated to the user, it is convenient for the user not to have a full mail box so quickly and may miss out important mails.
