When should you submit to the search engines ?
One of my internet marketing coaching participant asked when should the website be submitted to search engines. Here are some pointers that you should consider before you submit to top search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN.
Search engine marketing is not about 1 or 2 points only. First, check whether your web designer or web programmer has done any search engine optimization for your website or have search engine marketing experience. It’s best if they can show you real case studies of their own websites or what they have done for their website (which in this case, you should counter check whether this is really their own portfolio).
Here are 4 simple items that you can do immediately before your submit to the search engines & online directories.
1. Hyperlink the home page to the internal pages and vice versa
- your Site Map should have clear details of what pages falling under which section & categories. How and where will you insert / categorize new webpages ?
- your most important Sales / Products / Promotions page must be easily accessed from the Home Page of your website
2. Attractive and value-added contents on your website
- avoid putting up a full sales letter type of website
- consider that your website needs to sell the customers so the copywriting of the website should clearly provide the information required. For instance, if you are selling watches, then what is the brand of the watch, the model number, the dial features, the strap material and watch colour too.
- do not scan the entire brochure or promotional flyer into the website as these contents are perceived as images and not really text
3. Remove under construction pages or incompleted webpages
- if you have a few webpages that are still pending completion, you should “unpublished” or do not feature those links on your website yet
- if your website is under construction, then the popular search engines like Google, or Yahoo will reject your website submission as you are considered to be not ready for listing in their search engine database
- you can always add in new contents and make amendments even after you submit to the search engines.
4. Find out what are the most popular search engines & relevant directories you should submit to
- there are the general search engines that both B2C (business to consumer) and B2B (business to business) can submit to. While depending on your business models, you will have additional special directories that you need to register with as well, such as online trade portals if you are a manufacturer, or online ebook directories if you are selling digital books.
If you have a search engine friendly website, you will stand a better chance of become the top ranking website in the search engine results.

Quoting some research that I found on the web from ” MyOwn Business.org ” regarding to When should we submit to search engine!
“there are thousands of Well designed websites but very few of them are visible on the Search engines. almost 90% of internet users today using search engine to find infromation they need. Yet, many businesses are not registered with search engines. Four billion searches are done in the US. ech month”
There still have a ton of business user who don’t know how to take the advantange out from the Search engine! Most of the internet user think that the search engine is only for look up information…. but never thinking by using Search engine effectively, it can Drive traffic to your site or online business. if you only concentrade on your local marketing, Search engine like ” google or yahoo” they also provide local search in order to maket your website effectively.
