Do you need a website before joining free affiliate programs?
Posted by Fione Tan, head internet marketing coach
Here are some common questions posed by entrepreneurs when they want to join the free affiliate programs
1. I found an affiliate site but in order to use their banners, I need to have a website first. As my website is still not up yet, how am i supposed to get contents for my website?
- do I copy from the existing site or must I build up my own contents and banners?
- what is the procedure for me to get the contents onto my site so that I can sign up with the affiliate program merchant for approval?
Here is the answer from internet marketing coach:-
Here are the steps to get started when joining the affiliate program:-
- list out the affiliate programs that you intend to join (eg about 10 free affiliate programs and their payout rates)
- do not copy articles, contents from other people’s websites unless they have given you permission to do so (and even if they let you use their articles, you should also check what is the benefit to them eg do you need to link to them, mention in source?)
- to plan your own website structure for inserting contents in, eg if you are doing a website about atkins diet so you will be having pages like what is atkins diet, free atkins diet menu plan, popular atkins diet stories, and more
- you should have about 5 webpages of contents and make sure there are no pages that shows under construction, or coming soon
- then you use your website name or blog url to apply for the free affiliate programs
After you get approved, then to login to your affiliate manager site and then copy the banners / text link codes to be pasted back into your website.
2. Should you use the free website pages or sales letters given by affiliate programs?
Answer from internet marketing coach:-
Some affiliate programs will give you the reference sales letters that you can use, and in some instances, even free websites to promote their affiliate program. My advice is do not take the contents as it is, and you always need to come up with your own contents and customized sales letters. Why? Since the affiliate program sales letter and website copywriting are templates, then you will be having exact replica websites like all the other resellers. The only things different are probably your name, signature and email.
If you want to get free top rankings in search engines like Google, or Yahoo (meaning appear in the natural / organic search engine results), you should have unique contents. Therefore, it helps that you can read 3 to 4 articles / books related to a topic and then prepare your own version of the topic article.

1. It is better to use a web site of your own instead of free blog since you can control it yourself.
2. It will give readers more confidence when they try to communicate with you.
3. For the sake of hosting cost, you will find it more costly in holding your web site.
4. You have to spare more time to check the response in your web site.
5. Consideration should be given to the reliability of the host provider in giving steady service to maintain your link.

Thanks for Fione’s professional feedback.
We find out that if we have a problem when doing homework or building a site, (especially for beginners) it seems that the response posting questions here is much more quicker than using the ticket support.
Thanks for eOneNet, reminding all of us about not to copy from the internet for both contents and images to avoid offensing the law of copyright
So we should have ideas to build up the site now, so let’s take actions!
