Taiwan is fast growing to be one of the top eCommerce markets in Asia, with more than 80% internet penetration rate and 50% smartphone adoption rate. eCommerce is expected to grow to US$34 Billion by 2015, according to Taipei’s American Chambers of Commerce.

Taiwan has the highest social media penetration rate in the region at 69%, compared to Brunei at 67%, Hong Kong at 61% and Singapore at 59%. The most popular social media portal is Facebook with the highest penetration rate of 65% globally.

The most popular online shopping sites in Taiwan are PChome Online with a revenue of $16.3 Billion TWD in 2013, Momoshop, Taobao, Ruten and Rakuten Ichiba Taiwan. The most popular shopping categories are clothes/accessories/shoes, tours, hotels and air tickets reservations.

Taiwan online shoppers also actively shopped in overseas shopping sites, including China (50%), Japan (48.9) and North America (27.4%), with cross border ecommerce transactions fuelling the growth of eCommerce.
