Wow, Fione is selected as one of the finalists in the National Woman Entrepreneurs Award 2008! This is the first national award endorsed jointly by three Ministries (The Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Small & Medium Industries Development Corporation, and the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development) to recognise the women entrepreneurs’ achievements in Malaysia.
Fione is among one of the top 10 finalists who will be vying for the awards which will be presented by the Queen of Malaysia in the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel this evening.
I just attended a press conference this morning for this event announcing the finalists, each of whom are the leaders in their respective industries, and some of them have been in business for more than 30 years!
I can gather the common qualities of these successful woman entrepreneurs from their inspiring speeches, which include:
- Taking risks. Most of them quit their secured jobs and started their own business from scratch, and very often with no or little money.
- Facing challenges and hardship. Most of them encountered hardship and difficulties, such as lack of start-up funding and business experience, not to mention some specific challenges relating to women, which are often looked down by the male counterpart in Malaysia. However, they all managed to overcome the challenges and move forward with their vision
- Persistence. In the opening remarks by YBhg Datuk Ir Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid, Chairman of SMIDEC, he talked about 3 different categories of entrepreneurs – successful entrepreneurs, struggling entrepreneurs, and giving up entrepreneurs. This Award is about successful entrepreneurs, which have become successful, not because of they haven’t been struggling, but because they are persistent and have this “Never say die” attitutude, which made them different and successful.
So being a successful entrepreneur is not an easy mission, let alone being one of the top entrepreneurs in Malaysia.
But to be a successful entrepreneur, it’s not about money, lack of business experience, or education. If you have some of the above qualities, welcome to be an entrepreneur!
Salute to Fione and all the finalists and let them be inspiring role models for all those who want to be successful!
