Fione’s Women Entrepreneur Business Award speech in Beijing

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Posted by Fione Tan, internet marketing coach in Beijing

I’ve just flew in on Friday morning to Beijing to participate in a chinese entrepreneurs global forum in Beijing, China. This morning, i have received the women entrepeneur award and had a chance to share my award acceptance speech below. As i was not well-versed in Mandarin, i was given the opportunity to give my speech in English, followed by in Mandarin.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great honor for me to stand here today. My name is Fione Tan, and I am one of many women who were nominated for this award, and I can tell that each of them is worthy of this award. I am really excited that I won the Honour of Outstanding Chinese Women in Entrepreneurship for 2009 and want to thank you for supporting me. Your support means a lot to me. It is the recognition of my hard work.

After graduating from USA, I returned home to Malaysia and started my career in the financial service industry. After 2 years, I finally woke up and realized I hated my job. Why? I kept asking myself. It was then I learnt that I have not been following my heart and at that point I decided to quit my job and follow my passion.

To share a quote from Napoleon Hill, “A goal is a dream with a deadline”. I realized my passion was for the Internet, and there will never be a better time than today. Thus I started an Internet Marketing Company. That was how www.eOneNet.com was born in 2000 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Today, eOneNet.com is the No.1 Internet Marketing Coaching company. We have regional offices in Singapore and Hong Kong while we self-own 2 offices in Malaysia.

Let me share with you a story, my customer Ryan was taking photos of his products at a park in Hong Kong, and two little kids approached him and asked, what was he doing? Ryan simply ignored them and continued to snap the photos. The 7 year old boy immediately said, “Well, I know what you’re doing. You’re taking photos of these items and will sell them on the Internet!” Even little kids love the Internet and by choosing an Industry that the Young generation is already using, our business will surely excel!

Since my early years I was sure that the Internet will change how the world do business. Not only am I talking about creating websites, but also the tremendous new opportunities the Internet can give to individuals or small business entrepreneurs to actually compete with bigger companies. Now, anyone can sell their merchandise to global customers with just clicks of a mouse.

China is now the World’s No.1 Internet population. In 2008, online shopping in China increased 128%. While ecommerce spending has been increasing by leaps and folds since its launch, most companies have not really made money online. As an Internet Marketing Coach, my specialty is to help companies increase online sales and improve ROI of their company marketing campaigns. I am sure that a business owner, particularly should look for ways to improve the company branding and use effective techniques to gain more customers. My story of success was started when I decided to become an entrepreneur at the age of 21. Most people was shocked to see such a young girl as a CEO. This award today is an addition to my other business awards, including one of which is the 2008 Malaysia Top 10 Women in Business. In the Internet world, I was sometimes referred to as the Queen of Internet Marketing. Being the youngest recipient, I was excited to win the award that was presented to me by a real Queen, The Queen of Malaysia.

Nowadays, I traveI between my homes in Malaysia and Hong Kong. I am very glad to announce that we, eOneNet.com are now starting our CHINA operations and will soon be able to help more China brands and Chinese manufacturers improve export volume via the Internet. Since 2000, over 30,000 entrepreneurs from all around the world has attended our internet marketing seminars and we have created many internet millionaires from Asia. Our upcoming seminar in China will include a session in Beijing in November and I invite all of you to participate in that event too.

I believe that one should work hard and play hard. Therefore, one of the main benefits I’ve derived from running an Internet business is that I can work anywhere, anytime. However, in all businesses, it takes team work, not only from the company team but also a supportive environment from loved ones. I am also very grateful to my family, and my caring husband.

I also want to thank my customers who demonstrate me that I have much to strive for in my profession. I am always glad to help entrepreneurs and business owners,  improve their Internet income. I like to share the joy in them when they see their brand ranked No.1 in popular search engines like Baidu, Google and Yahoo, or when they tell me how many new orders they have received after doing Internet Marketing.

I am sure that each of you can say the same – we often have that extremely pleasant feeling of satisfaction from helping people to improve themselves. Though we all live in different cities, we have something in common: it is our striving for better. We work on it and we succeed. Before ending, let me share with you a quote from Napoleon Hill,

“Success has no limits. A truly successful person will never stop pushing themselves towards their goals. The “ladder of success” keeps going, and your success keeps growing with every new step you take.”

And I am glad I can say this: Let us all create new ideas, new opportunities and make the world better. Thank you!

Tatler magazine : Fione interviewed as Role Model for Women

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Fione Tan is featured as one of the best role models for successful women of this era in the Tatler magazine March issue in Malaysia. Tatler, the leading luxury magazine 3 page write up about this powerful internet marketing queen is summarised below.

In the Land of Women

Tatler Magazine March 2009

TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY THIS MONTH, MANSOR TUN ABDUL AZIZ AND MICHELE THESEIRA SEEK INSPIRATION FROM FIVE MALAYSIAN WOMEN WHO HAVE TRAVELED DIVERSE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS IN LIFE YET COMMUNICATE THE ESSENTIALS OF BRING A WOMAN

On March 8th the eyes of the world look to women – seeking to learn from their struggles alongside their achievements.

Fione Tan
She may only be a youthful looking 31-year-old but already she has notched up an impressive amount of experience. Pretty and petite she is a powerhouse of gutsy determination with the world now seemingly at her feet. It’s been only over a year since she walk down the wedding aisle with her business partner of many years, and she laughingly admits, “I wouldn’t mind getting married again – of course to my same husband.”

The CEO and President of the own company, eOneNet.com Sdn Bhd, Fione remembers how she ventured into her own business. “I worked for an insurance company and was astonished to see people who had dedicated 15 to 20 years of their lives working with the company, simply fired.” This got her thinking and with a four-page business plan she resigned and went out to look for a financier, someone who believed in her and her plan.

In the Land of Woman - Tatler Magazine - Fione Tan

Coming from a family of non-business orientated individuals who all worked for companies, Fione was all the more determined. “My mother was a working mum and always encouraged me to be independent. I’ve learnt from her that it doesn’t prove a point that a mother who stays at home is the best mother. One can spend quantity time, yet not quality time with one’s children,” shares Fione, who reveals her mother is now working for her, running the company’s finance department.

Her mother has been constantly supportive, even when Fione quit that insurance job without another job in hand. “I come from a simple and hardworking family background and my mother never made me feed bad, nor flared up when I told her I resigned. Instead, she encouraged me although she had no idea what business I thought of going into.” And Fione admit, “She used to see me typing furiously on the computer, thinking I was working, when actually at that time, I was chatting online.”

Today Fione has office in KL, Singapore and Hong Kong, travelling the globe giving talks as a consultant in internet business and marketing.

One of the few CEOs of a top UK training company, Janette Faherty, comments, “Studies show that ethnic women are two-and-a-half times more likely to start a business than their white counterparts. However, women are less likely to believe they have the attributes to start or run their own business compared to men.” To this Fione agrees having traveled and given many business talks. “I notice there is a lack of self confidence in women, not necessarily the uneducated. I’ve come across many high-profile women who are not very confident in themselves and need a lot of reassuring. I have to keep telling them not to be so fearful of coming out into the world of business and assure them they can do it.”

Business Magazine Interviews Fione Tan – Internet Marketing Success Story

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

The interview in March 1-15th edition of the Malaysian business, has featured Fione Tan in a 2 page article, sharing her success as the best Internet Marketing personality.

Being Successful

Malaysia Business, Mar 1-15, 2009

FOR SOMEONE WHO SET UP HER own company at the tender age of 21 and quite terrified of being a CEO, Fione Tan has certainly come a long way.

Today the company Tan founded in 2000, eOneNet.com Sdn Bhd provides one-stop Online Marketing services & Internet Marketing Training for multinational companies as well as home business entrepreneurs, and has offices in three countries.

And last December she was recognised as one of the top 10 women entrepreneurs during the National Women Entrepreneurs Award.

‘It’s such a privilege to be featured among the top Malaysian women entrepreneurs, some of whom who have already been successfully in business for decades. Moreover, the chance to be presented with the Certificate of Recognition by the Raja Permaisuri Agong was definitely one of the most unforgettable experiences for me,’ she says.

The recognition, she adds, spurs her to scale new heights and to overcome whatever challenges.

Tan sits down with mb-e to share her experiences and hopes.

Malaysia First National Women Entrepreneurs Award - Madam Chair - Fione Tan

“Being Successful – Malaysia Business – Fione Tan”

Q: You started eOneNet.com at the tender age of 21. Do you think starting a business at a fairly young age give you an advantage?

Tan: Personally, starting at a young age definitely has given me an advantage. At the very beginning I was in the spotlight of then new and raising industry and as a young and upcoming Internet player in Malaysia I received unprecedented media attention and publicity that helped to build the brand and market for my company.

On the other hand, being young, it was actually quite terrifying to carry the title of CEO, especially when I didn’t have any business background whatsoever (Tan grew up in a medium income family where both parents were hardworking employees). However, I received a great confident booster by surrounding myself around positive thinkers and creative entrepreneurs.

Today, most of the clients are rather fascinated that I could have done so much in such short period of time. Now they are eager to listen to my ideas on how to boost their business sales further.

Q: Today your company is considered one of Asia’s Top Internet Marketing companies. To reach this stage, you would certainly be facing many challenges. What are some of the major ones that you have overcome?

Tan: In the beginning, I did not have any technical know-how to steer the company forward. But I made it up with the drive to succeed. I was willing to ask and learn via “practical” experience. It’s easy to read about certain tasks on books, but doing it in a real world would be the best way to learn.

Initially when I started eOneNet.com, among the challenges included certain basic steps such as how to get started, how to get a website designed, what were the steps to accept online payment, and how to get customers coming to the website.

You can buy the Malaysian Business magazine in leading bookstores and newsstands across Malaysia.

In these times, when many retailers and companies are looking at how to reduce costs and maintain sales, the Internet provides an additonal channel for sellers to promote and market their products and services. How did Jack obtain top 10 rankings in search engines for Free? Did he have this product ideas before starting an Internet Business?

Jack is hardworking and persistent. After attending the hands-on coaching at eOneNet.com to learn how to make money online, he put things into action! By following our weekly coaching tutorials, he can know what to do exactly week by week and used our suggestions to improve his ideas. If he had not attended our training or asked his internet marketing coaches for ideas, he would have missed this new opportunity right?

Women’s Institue of Management write up on Fione Tan – ecommerce entrepreneur

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Check out the latest issue of magazines in Malaysia for Inspire : The Business Journal of the Women’s Institute of Management June 2008.

Page 46 to 47 features the Women Entrepreneur Fione Tan and shared her tips on how to create a profitable Internet Business, even if you are starting from scratch.

Here are parts of the article

What Women Want

Inspire, June 08

To be financially independent

To pursue their own interests. To have time for themselves and their families. To have quality lives. To be themselves.

If all this sounds too unreal to be achievable, think again. Today, some women have managed to buck the saying “You can’t have your cake and eat it too” and are doing all of the above. Their secret: technology. If the thought of spending lots of time at the computer doesn’t faze you, then an Internet-based business may be right up your street.

“Considering the options, I thought it was an appropriate time to begin a Net-based business, especially because start-up costs were so low.”

Asian women in business

SOMETHING TO CALL YOUR OWN

Indeed, many women already own and run businesses, and a Web presence – or at least an e-mail address – has become a commercial prerequisite as high on the must-have list as a mobile number. However, some still shy away from anything to do with Information Technology and could therefore end up being on the losing end.

There are so many pros to having an IT-based business. Netpreneur Fione Tan started hers just before she turned 21, and has never looked back. Studying in the US provided more than an education; exposure to the Internet at university convinced her that IT was the way to go. “Internet use was just picking up in Malaysia back then,” she says. “Considering the options, I thought is was an appropriate time to begin a Net-based business, especially because start-up costs were so low.”

So she registered eOneNet.com, a virtual company first, and then set up physical office in Kuala Lumpur a few months later in April 2000. Perhaps she was a little savvier than others. Her dot-com, eOneNet.com, was positioned from the very start as an Internet marketing company that could help customers improve their online businesses.
