Luxury O2O e-commerce site 28Mall.com signed memoranda of understanding with several prestige brands, including Amber Chia Academy, Terminus, Gintell and Anio to offer their branded products on the marketplace. The MoU was signed during the recent Malaysia International Retail and Franchise Expo in Kuala Lumpur.
Launched in September 2016 in Hong Kong and Malaysia, 28Mall is Southeast Asia’s O2O mall for Malaysian and other brands to penetrate the China and overseas market via cross-border e-commerce. Unlike other marketplaces, it is open only to brand owners or approved authorised distributors. This gives peace of mind to consumers that they are buying authentic brands.
It currently hosts more than 200 international and local brands, offering more than 3000 products for cosmetics and skincare, mobile phone and accessories, mum and baby, and health. The online mall offers brands and retailers its platform services on a “no sales no pay” basis.
So far, its online customers have come from Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines and the United States, among others.
The mall has an ongoing campaign on Facebook and WhatsApp to give away free digital “hongbao” (lucky money) points worth up to US$28. “Recipients of the hongbao will become members of 28Mall upon acceptance of the gift, and the best part is, after becoming a member he can log in each day to send 28Mall hongbao to his friends. The more he shares, the more hongbao he earns for shopping, too,” said 28Mall president and CEO, Fione Tan. “To get your first free hongbao, just click at http://28Mall.com/s/P3c.”
Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) president Dato’ Garry Chua said the retail industry is badly hit by Internet sales. “If the retailers can embrace e-commerce and integrate online and offline, they can win back the lost customers,” he said. “Better yet, with platforms like 28Mall to do cross-border e-commerce, they can export products overseas.”
“Most SMEs know the e-commerce trend is unstoppable but they do not know how to start,” Tan said. She added that she will be conducting a seminar entitled “US$100 billion Cross-border E-commerce” to reveal ways to conduct e-commerce trade into China, the problems that need to be solved, and how to embark on a new retail sales business model.
