Golden Plaza wedding mall in Mongkok, Hong Kong
To prepare for my wedding celebration in Hong Kong and Malaysia, i’ve started thinking about my wedding gown. Typically, brides would rent the wedding gown from the bridal store that offered their wedding photography, but i was unlikely to follow suit.
First of all, i had my wedding photos done in China, with a Taiwanese wedding company. That itself took 2 full days of shooting, as we had outdoor scenes like in the park, as well as the seaside. I couldn’t imagine renting a gown from that bridal store (although they did have a Super VIP Taiwan-designer wedding gowns section), and having to return it.
In Hong Kong, i have visited the Golden Plaza Mall in Mongkok. It was shocking for me to find so many wedding related items all in 1 place, as it was very uncommon in Malaysia or even Singapore. However, the wedding gowns were mainly of similar designs and were majority made in China, thus you can expect cheaper rates of about HK$800 per wedding dress or evening gown rental of 3 days / 2 nights.
If signing up with their package rates, you can get 3 gowns at the price of HK$1,800. One thing good though is that for the men, they can get suits for a bargain price. A wing collared tuxedo shirt is only about HK$150 each, and my fiancee bought his from Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui for HK$1,000. I wished we visited here earlier and we would have saved HK$850.
I did find 2 bridal gowns i liked and they were made by a local Hong Kong bridal gown designer with materials from France, and Italy. One was encrusted with lots of crystals of various sizes, while the other was a different European feel. Both were very unique, but the store would not allow customers to try these 2 gowns unless they paid HK$300. Should i pay to see whether one of these 2 gowns is my dream gown? Maybe i should revisit the store.
