Campaign to promote e-business

THREE entities have pooled their resources to organise a campaign to get more Malaysians to go online and be active in e-business.

They are eOneNet.Com, the SMI Association of Malaysia and the National SMI Consultative Centre, and they will be presenting the first e-Business Ownership Campaign in Malaysia from September 20 2000 until year-end. president and chief executive officer (CEO) Fione Tan claimed the campaign to be the first of its kind in Malaysia and it has received strong support from organizations, dotcom companies and the media.

She said Small and Medium Industries Development Corp (SMIDEC) is one of the supportive organizations of the campaign that will kick off with a two -day e-Business Conference.

"This is the first e-Business Conference in Malaysia which will gather 16 CEOs and directors of top websites in Malaysia and Singapore who will be sharing their experiences in starting and promoting a website successfully," she said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur.

The launch of the campaign and the website of on September 21 2000 at 10.30am will be officiated by YB Datuk Tan Chai Hoe, Deputy Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia.

"e-Business is not a hype. It is a new way to do business. If you don't jump on the e-business bandwagon now, your competitor will. We would like to see more Malaysian businesses get online to increase their competitive edge."

SMI Association Malaysia president Looi Teong Chye said SMI should grab this opportunity to attend the conference to learn why they must get online now and how to do so properly.

The campaign is co-organised by the SMI Association of Malaysia and the National SMI Consultative Centre with the support of various organizations and dotcom companies.

To make the conference affordable to everyone, the organization are offering it at RM88 per day.

A business owner can actually have a chance to walk out of this conference and have his new website up and running within a few days. will sponsor 500 SMI to get online by offering them free web design and hosting services package. All they need to pay is a set up fee of RM300.
